Obituary

Services for Lorena M. Stacy, 86, who died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines, will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 9 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation one hour prior to services.  Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F Cemetery.

Lorena May (Brown) Stacy was born February 7, 1920 to Tony and Bessie Brown on a farm in Warren County, south of Indianola, Iowa.  She attended school at the Mount Tabor and Liberty elementary schools and high school at New Virginia.

Lorena was united in marriage to Austin W. Stacy on April 8, 1939 and to this union 2 sons, Galen and Denzil, were born.  The family farmed north of Liberty until 1960 when they moved to Indianola.

Lorena was active in Liberty Methodist Church playing piano, providing floral arrangements and sewing in the Ladies Aid.  She held several jobs to help send her sons to college.  Lorena worked at Lindfelt Glove Company in Des Moines, cooked at Irving Elementary School, was a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken, managed her own domestic cleaning service, and had a custom candle making business in her home.  She was very proud of working hard and doing her best at each job.  She enjoyed cooking and entertaining in her home.  Lorena was well known for her beautiful flower gardens, needle work and crafts.  She received many ribbons for her entries in county fair events and was keenly interested in nature, bird watching and going on camping and fishing trips.  Each year she eagerly awaited the red-bud blossoms at Lake Ahquabi.  In Indianola, Lorena was a member of the Indianola Regular Baptist Church and attended services regularly as health permitted.

In 2004, Lorena moved from her home to Windsor Manor, due to her declining health.  After suffering a stroke she passed away at Hospice Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.  She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

Lorena is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Galen and Becky Stacy of Pacific Junction and Denzil and Karen Stacy of Sioux Rapids.  Galen and Becky's family include:  Monica Lamberty, husband David and children, Brian, Eric and Alyson of Villa Park, IL; Douglas Stacy, wife, Marnee and step daughter, Skylar of Batavia, IL; and Gretchen Warnke, husband, Kevin and daughters, Margaret and Katherine of Eagan, MN.  Denzil and Karen's family include:  Kristine Stacy-Bates, husband, Brian Bates, and son Logan of Ames; Jennifer Stacy-Adams, husband, David Adams and son, Peter of Iowa City.  Also surviving is one sister, Alta (Mrs. Roy) McKnight and two nephews, Ronald and Robert McKnight all of Indianola.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Bessie Brown; husband, Austin Stacy; and brother-in-law, Roy McKnight.

Memorials may be given to the Indianola Regular Baptist Church.
