Lois Opal Morris Vanderpool, 101, passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at Westview Care Center in Indianola. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 15 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following at the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Lois was born October 23, 1914 in rural Lohrville, IA to S.A. and Opal (Leach) Morris. She was a graduate of Lohrville High School and Thompson Beauty School in Des Moines. Lois owned and operated a beauty shop in Newton, where she met her future husband. Clifford Vanderpool. They eventually moved to Indianola where she and her husband raised four children, farmed, and operated a construction business. Lois enjoyed gardening, yard work, cooking and traveling. Her faith was very important to her and throughout her life she was active in her church.
Survivors include her children, Kathy Vanderpool, Mike (Marylee) Vanderpool, and Julie (Steve) Renftle all of Indianola; daughter-in-law, Judy (Ron) Gatrel of Loma Linda, CA; grandchildren, Tim (Mary) Vanderpool of Tucson, AZ, Todd (Penelope) Vanderpool-Gatrel of Loma Linda, CA, Mitzi (Frank) Wall of Iverness, FL, Matt (Angelica) Ellis of El Paso, TX, Kristy Gatrel of Phoenix, AZ, Toby (Karmen) Vanderpool, Jodi (Jim) Dishman, Ann (Justin) Peterson, and Katie (Bryce) Gilbert all of Indianola; 18 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; her nephew, Pat Jenkins of Indianola Westview Care Center; and many other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; son, Craig; all of her siblings; and brothers and sisters-in law.
The family will receive friends in the Tillotson Hospitality Room at the First United Methodist Church from noon to 2 p.m., two hours prior to the Celebration of Life service. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations in Lois' name to Indianola First United Methodist Church, Indianola Senior Center or a charity of giver's choice.
