Obituary

Lois Ann (Jacobsen) Jacobsen 97, of Corydon, Iowa, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, August 29, 2026. She was born July 31, 1929, to Otto F. and C. LaVerne (Bauer) Jacobsen.

Lois attended country school in the Avoca area and graduated from Avoca High School in 1946. She taught at the Franz Country School for two years and then married Robert M. Jacobsen on June 6, 1948. They became the parents of eight children. Robert and Lois farmed in the Indianola area for a number of years and then moved to a farm near Ackworth. Lois especially enjoyed raising her family on their dairy farm.

In 1966, they moved to Wayne County, and in 1972, they settled in Allerton. Lois worked restaurant and sewing-factory jobs for eight years before serving as Allerton City Clerk for 20 years.

Lois dearly loved all of her family and loved canning tomatoes, making jelly, gardening, growing flowers, crocheting, making quilts for her kids and grandkids and baking pies. Lois and Robert were then separated and divorced.

After 35 years in her home, Lois moved to Murphy Place in Corydon in September 2024, where she made many new friends and enjoyed socializing. She enjoyed keeping up on her emails and doing crossword puzzles and playing games, especially Solitaire, on her computer and iPad. Lois was a longtime member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Corydon.

Lois is survived by her children, Merry Johnston, Susan (Kermitt) Posten, Janet (Randy) Crum, Allan (Nancy) Jacobsen, Linda Fain, Nancy (Brad) Knutson, Joan (Mike) Riehl, and Jean (Paul) Conrad; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Eleanore Willett, Carol (Dave) Sampson, and Myrna Peterson; and many nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and LaVerne; brother, Kenneth; beloved grandson, Ryan Fain; infant grandchildren, Ashley Crum and Timothy Johnston; and her great-granddaughter, Tristan Fain.

Following Lois’ wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 6, at the Allerton Centennial Building, 101 S. Central Ave, Allerton, Iowa. Visitation will follow service from 1:30 to 3 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place in the Allerton Cemetery at a later date.

Lois will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lois’ name to the Allerton Soda Fountain at OTSF P.O. Box 208 Allerton, Iowa, 50008.
