Leta was born January 3, 1909, on the family farm near the community of Cool, Warren County, Iowa. Her parents were William T. and Elizabeth (Wallis) Gillett. She was the youngest of seven children.
Leta was untied in marriage with Clarence Curnes in 1927. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Indianola, serving as church secretary from 1952 to 1970. Following her marriage in 1970 to John Rex Davey, she attended the Christian Union Church. Leta was a long-time member and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge #111. Indianola was her home for more than 75 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1969 and by her second husband in 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Noddin and husband Ted of Coos Bay, Oregon; a son, Gerald Curnes and wife Karrylle of Moscow, Idaho; and a foster son, Steven Carter and wife Kay of El Dorado Hills, California. Also surviving are four stepchildren: Glenn Davey and wife Carol, Karma Wilkinson and husband Gordon, Betty Bumgarner and husband Johnny, Shirley Zimmerman and husband Laverne, all of Indianola; 6 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, 200 East 1st Avenue, or Box 204, Indianola, Iowa 50125.
