IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leroy
Vannoy
February 28, 1944 – September 7, 2024
Celebration of Life services for Leroy Vannoy, 80, of Indianola, who passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 at home in Indianola, will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 13, 2024 at Federated Church, Bondurant, IA 50035. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to service from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. Inurnment with Military honors will be held in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery 11 a.m., Monday, September 16, 2024.
Leroy was united in marriage with Judy on October 17th, 1970 after returning home from his time in the Army in 1968. Leroy attended Indian Hills and Grandview before taking up his lifetime career working on the IMB CICS Mainframe as a Systems Programmer. Early in their marriage, there were many trips to Ottumwa to spend time at his Father-in-law and Mother-in-laws house for the weekend. Family dinners, "Jam" time in the living room, and on the front porch was always a highlight. Leroy even learned to play some guitar chords so he could participate with the rest of the family. He still laughed about getting a call from work at the family dinner table once and all he told the person calling was "Yep, It's Broke" and hung up. He also laughs about David Heckart always getting the Ronald McDonald plate at dinner time.
Early in his marriage while raising kids, Leroy frequently traveled with his job and moved several times for work projects, to Alabama and Nebraska, until settling down on their favorite property north of Indianola where they built their own house and lived there for 27 years. It was there that he began to work for Wells Fargo Services as a Software Engineer. It was also here that he went up the chain to become a Assistant Vice President of Technical Services and Software Engineer. Leroy worked hard for Wells Fargo for 27 years before he partially retired during COVID to 3 days a week however he would not quit working until the week before he was promoted to heaven. Finally, 12 years ago by being so overwhelmed from the upkeep of the large home they had built and the number of acres to take care of they decided to move to their forever home in Indianola.
Leroy enjoyed his woodworking activities, tinkering on just about everything, spending time with family and friends. Their house always had someone there visiting and staying for dinner. Leroy also enjoyed attending or watching Church online every Sunday morning after joining Federated Church of Bondurant in 2014.
Leroy is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Terry (Kari) Vannoy, Jackie Hagen; grandchildren, Katie (Logan) May, Crystal (Ryan) Putney, DJ Hagen, Becky Hagen, Ashley Vannoy, Tyler Vannoy; three great-grandchildren with two on the way; siblings, Tom (Barb Wilkinson) Vannoy, Connie Green; nieces, Lindsey Heckart, Michelle Berry-Hower; nephews, Jim Sallee, Jason Sallee; many nieces, nephews and other family friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Leta Mae Campbell; siblings, Ronald Vannoy, Leota Sallsberry, Michael Vannoy, Norman Vannoy, Allen Vannoy, Jackie Lynn Vannoy, Trisha Jane Gasaway, William Vannoy, Joseph Vannoy, David Heckart, and Nina Berry.
