Visitation for Lee Irene Carlson, 78, who died Monday, August 8, 2011, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, August 13 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. A private burial of cremains will take place at the Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Lee worked 30 years for Northwestern Bell and volunteered for 25 years at the Kiya Koda Humane Society. She loved the many pets she had throughout her life. Lee was very compassionate about the welfare of all animals and had a special place in her heart for abandoned cats and dogs. For the last 15 years she volunteered her caring and kind services 7 days a week. Her work and dedication was an inspiration to everyone involved at Kiya Koda. She was a member at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola. Lee was very passionate about playing golf with her family and friends. Lee is survived by her only daughter, Linda (Mike) Young; grandchildren, Melissa Holst, Miles McCoy and John Veatch; 7 great grandchildren and her loyal pets, Boogey and Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn D. Carlson and mother, Grace Chrisman. Memorials may be given to the Kiya Koda Humane Society in Indianola.
