Laurence was born in Ft. Dodge, IA and farmed in northern Iowa for several years before moving to Martensdale, IA. He worked as a tire builder for Firestone Tire & Rubber and retired from Wiegert Disposal in Martensdale in 1985. He enjoyed sports, fishing, and coaching Little League Baseball.

Survivors include his children, Jon (Jo Ann) Wiegert of Prole, Steve (Nanci) Wiegert of Ankeny, Barbara (Mike) Wagner of Indianola, Tim (Dianna) Wiegert of Churchville, Scott (Cathy) Wiegert of West Des Moines, Gary (Donna) Wiegert of Martensdale, and Brian (Jill) Wiegert of Martensdale. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Martensdale Fire and Rescue or Middle River Hospice of Madison County.
