A Memorial visitation for Kevin Glen Schnathorist, 55, of Lacona, who passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019, will be held  4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 18, at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola where family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. to greet friends.

Kevin Glen Schnathorst was born August 11, 1963 in Des Moines Iowa to Emlin and Dianne (Bickford) Schnathorst. The third of five children, Kevin grew up on the south side of Des Moines, later moving to Summerset just north of Indianola. As a child, Kevin was a talented baseball player until an injury as a teen sidelined the budding athlete, changing his focus to girls and mischief.  As an adult Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and riding his Harley.

Kevin was a kid at heart and at family gatherings could be found wrestling with the boys or twirling the girls in the air.  He enjoyed trying new things, including building his own forge and was learning how to make knives. He and his youngest son Ethan were always on the lookout for something fun and usually slightly dangerous to try which lead them to join an axe throwing league with Kevin coming in 2nd place, nearly earning a trip to Chicago for nationals.

Kevin is survived by daughter, Amy Schnathorst and grandson Ayden, son, Gavin Nicholson, daughter, Kaitlin (Brady) Hoppock and granddaughter Kalliope, daughter Nikole Schnathorst  and granddaughter Brayleigh and son Ethan Schnathorst.  He is also survived by his parents, Emlin & Diane Schnathorst; brothers, Emlin Jr. (Lorrie) Schnathorst, Carl (Karen) Schnathorst, Danny (Stacey) Schnathorst; sister, Nila Schnathorst and numerous nieces and nephews.  Kevin spent his last days in the company of his fiancée, Kelly Kamerick.
