Obituary

Kevin Dean Putney was born the son of Darrell and Bette Putney on September 23, 1958. He grew up in "Putneyville" with two sisters, Bobette and Donya, and a whole lot of family and friends. Kevin attended Emerson Grade School and graduated from the Indianola High School in 1977. Growing up, he was a member of the White Oak Climbers 4-H Club and the Indianola FFA Chapter. Kevin believed in giving 100% in whatever he was involved in. He restored a Ford Ranchero as a 4-H project, which earned a presidential award and the opportunity to be congratulated by President Gerald Ford at the Iowa State Fair in 1975. Kevin continued his education, earning a Diesel Mechanic certification from DMACC and a Colonel Degree at the Missouri Auction School. Kevin met his late wife, Jane Putney, through 4-H. They were married on December 18, 1983 and raised their sons, Mark and Curt on the 3rd generation family farm. Always at his side, throughout the years, were Kevin's loyal 4 legged companions, Toby and Molly, Buddy and Pal. Kevin shared his love for family and friends by hosting numerous holiday parties. Kevin's special connections with Santa and the Easter Bunny were well known. Children were loved and spoiled by Kevin, always leaving his presence with a handful of candy. He was an auctioneer, farmer, and a great carpenter. He passed on his woodworking skills to his sons, children in the family, and many people in the 4-H community. He was a leader of the White Oak Climbers 4-H Club and Senior 4-H. Kevin held many offices in the Warren County Cattlemen's Association and helped to start the Beef Quarters at the Iowa State Fair.He used his many talents and auctioneering career as a tool to contribute to the community he loved so much. His calendar was always full of charity events, where he helped raise money for so many great causes. His generosity and giving spirit was reflected in all that he was a part of. Kevin was a blessing to all who knew him personally and those whose lives have been impacted by the work of his hands. Kevin dedicated his life to helping and serving others and has made a lasting impact by allowing his spirit to be a light in the community. Kevin died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the age of 55. He is survived by his two sons, Mark and Curt Putney; father Darrell (Juanita) Putney; sisters Bobette (Todd) Miller and Donya (Karl) Hayes; sister in-law Julie (Greig) Jones; and many relatives and friends.
