IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kelly Dean
Shoop
January 11, 1974 – May 13, 2024
Services for Kelly Dean Shoop, 50, of Indianola, who passed away Monday, May 13, 2024 at home, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford, Iowa.
Kelly Dean Shoop was born on January 11, 1974 at 2:08 pm to Larry and Linda Shoop in Des Moines, Iowa. (Mom was sure to call him at 2:08 pm every year.) He passed away peacefully at home on May 13, 2024.
Kelly graduated from Johnston High School in 1992 where he played basketball, ran track and excelled in football. He was 1st Team, All Conference, Wide Receiver for two years. He eventually moved to Missouri where he lived most of his adult life. It was there his daughter, Hannah, and son, Carson were born. Kelly loved Hannah and Carson with all of his heart and loved coaching them in soccer, basketball, baseball, football and volleyball. Kelly was a die-hard Duke Blue Devils basketball, Kansas City Chiefs, and Kansas City Royals fan.
As many know, Kelly battled addictions and mental health issues throughout his life. He was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2020 which eventually led to the diagnosis of heart failure. He moved back to Iowa in 2023 so he could receive the care he needed with the assistance of others. Mom was at his side through thick and thin taking him to appointments, spending countless hours at the hospital and administering the care he needed at home. Mom and Dad were by his side when he passed. He opened his eyes, looked up at Mom and she told him to go to Jesus and that's exactly what he did. This is what our family wants you to know. Several weeks before Kelly left this earth, Mom led him to Christ. Now we have the reassurance and peace knowing Kelly is in heaven with Jesus. Completely healed of all things. That is our hope for all who read this that you will know Jesus Saves! John 3:16-17 are real.
Left to carry on Kelly's story are his children, Hannah Shoop and Carson Shoop, parents Larry and Linda Shoop, sister, Karie Hale-Ellwanger, nephews Zach Hale, Seth (Casie) Hale, and Elijah Ellwanger. Great-niece Josie Hale and great nephew Callan Hale, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Grandparents and cousins preceded him in death.
The family would like to thank Cynthia Moffitt and the Suncrest Hospice staff for their assistance through the process of letting Kelly go. We also want to thank Da Vita Dialysis Centers in Lee Summit, MO and Des Moines, IA for the care they provided Kelly over the past 3 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in his name for contributions at a later date.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Overton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in his name for contributions at a later date. To sign an online condolence, visit our website at www.overtonfunerals.com.
