Obituary

Memorial services for Keith Eugene Lee, 95, of Indianola, who passed away Thursday, February 8, will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, February 12 at Overton Funeral Home, Indianola.  Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation will follow services and burial will be held in the Norwalk Cemetery at a later date.

Keith was the son of Royal and Helen Lee. He was born on April 28, 1922, in Wick and was the last of nine siblings, dying Feb. 8, 2018, in Indianola. He would have claimed cause of death as TMB (Too Many Birthdays).

After graduating from Martensdale High School in 1939, Keith worked with his brother in law hauling milk and then working briefly for Inland Mills before going to work at Iowa Pack, driving a truck.  When "the Pack" closed, Keith sold feed for Moorman Feeds before returning to truck driving with Hayes Cartage Company.  After ending his driving career, Keith worked for the Des Moines School District doing a variety of jobs at Des Moines Tech.

Keith was always active with his church and with youth, coaching Little League for the Evansville Eagles, working with the Boy Scouts, teaching Sunday School with his wife, and helping with church youth groups.

Keith loved the outdoors, always having hogs or cattle on his acreage, cutting wood to heat his home. He was known for "pit" cooking; pie baking; Snickers eating; and his sense of humor. Although he lived to 95, he quit buying green bananas at age 82, "just in case he died before they ripened".

He married Maxine Barrie Sept. 30, 1946, (he incorrectly claimed to have rescued her from the Des Moines Home for Wayward Women, also known as Esther Hall). They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016 at Windsor Manor.

Keith is survived by his wife of 72 years, Maxine; sons, Barrie (Sandra) Lee of Newton, IA, James (Brenda) Lee of Indianola, IA, Thomas (Patty) Lee of Monticello, IA, and Richard Lee of Portland, OR; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Ministries or Bidwell Riverside.
