Kay was born in Jefferson, Iowa on October 17,1935. Her father, Orlo, passed away when she was 2 ½. Her mom, sister (Anita), and Kay moved in with her grandfather, Chester Pulley. They grew up on a farm, but Kay and Anita were not typical farm girls.
Kay went to college at Simpson in Indianola where she met her husband, Dennis Crossett. They were married and lived in the barracks at Simpson. Soon came their first daughter, Denise. Five years later they welcomed Renee.
Kay and Dennis spent their life together moving while chasing teaching jobs and creating special childhood memories with their daughters. They lived in Indianola, Monroe, Ankeny, North English, Brookfield, Missouri, Clear Lake, and Janesville. Finally settling in Indianola to be near their 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Any town where Kay lived, you could find her volunteering in church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School.
When they returned to Indianola, Kay spent her time volunteering at Emerson and Laura Ingalls Wilder Elementary Schools. She loved being with her friends, going out to eat, and playing cards but especially she loved candy!!! Kay loved sports. The Chicago Cubs were a highlight during spring and summer. She loved watching Caitlin Clark play basketball!!! She also loved watching her grandchildren play soccer and became a fan of Simpson Women's Soccer.
It will always make her family smile when they think back at Grandma Kay saying, "I can do that because I do yoga!"
Kay is survived by her daughters, Denise (Dan) Reinert and Renee LaFleur; grandchildren, Shanyn (Lee) Tuftee, Shawn (Allie Wilson) Reinert. Brady (Amanda) Reinert, Jeremy (Amy) Reinert, Nicholas (Amanda) Reinert, Alex LaFleur and Jackson LaFleur; great-grandchildren, Andren and Marek, Arya, Callen and Zoey, Ava and Bennett, Lola and Rowan and Braxten; sister, Anita (John) Varme; nieces, Angie (Steffan) Paul and Kristin Varme.
