Kathryn Elizabeth Sorden, 89, died at the Village in Indianola on October 31, 2008.  She was born May 9, 1919 in Estherville Iowa to Rev. Gilbert Voorhies and Edna VanNuys Voorhies.  Her mother died in 1923 and her father married Cora Corrie in 1925.  Kathryn graduated from Fairfield High (Fairfield, Iowa) and from Parsons College in Fairfield.  She taught at Stennett Consolidated School from 1940 to 1942 and West Chester from 1944 to 1945.

On February 28, 1942, Kathryn married Myron Sorden.  They moved to Indianola in 1947.  She worked at the office of Drs. Trueblood, Porter and Cornish from 1956 to 1973.  From 1972 until her retirement in 1984, she taught at Indianola Junior High School.  She was active in Trinity United Presbyterian Church, P.E.O., Chi Delta Phi, and the Shakespeare Club.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Judy) Sorden of Geneva, Illinois; daughter, Sue Sorden of Indianola; and granddaughter, Kylie Sorden of Chicago, Illinois.  She will be missed by many, but especially by Barb Moul and Jane Wallerstedt who were "family by choice."  She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron and sisters, Virginia and Taddie.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola.  Burial of cremains will be at a later date in the Sorden Cemetery in Webster, Iowa.
