Obituary

Kathryn Newell Baker, 100, was born July 19, 1908 to Jake and Alma Campbell and passed away March 28, 2009 at Good Samaritan in Indianola, IA. She grew up in and around Wick, IA, and joined the Wick Methodist Church. She was married in 1927 to John Newell, who passed away July 11, 1949. Their home was blessed with seven children, two passing away in infancy. On November 21, 1951, she was married to Ray Baker, who died in 1987.

Kathryn was a well known face in Indianola, working for many years at Crouse Café and also the Cottage Inn. She was a faithful baseball and sports fan for her boys and her many grandchildren's games. She adored all of her large extended family and served many great meals in her home.

Surviving are John and Kathryn's children,  Robert of Davenport, Betty (Harold) Allen of New Virginia, Phil (Linda) Newell, Ken (Sandy) Newell, and Richard (Marilyn) Newell all of Indianola.  She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren and two great great great grandchildren.  A grand total of 100, one for every year of her life!

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; three brothers; two sisters, Rebecca and Bessie Campbell; step-sister, Elsie Wilson; two step brothers; two daughters-in-law, Twila Lacox Newell and Kathy Bechter Newell; two grandsons, Greg Newell and Gerry Allen; one granddaughter, Barbara Williams; and one great grandson, Tony Wylie.

Services will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with visitation preceding the service from 11 a.m. until time of service.  Memorials appreciated to Bethel Chapel or Fairview Christian Church in Kathryn's memory.
