Karry was born on March 22, 1924 to Klaas and Maggie Gruis. She spent most of her life in Des Moines, moving to Indianola in 2005.

Karry is survived by her son, Verlynn (Skip) Vandervort; daughter, Kathie Stogdill and husband, Ron; step-son, Rodger Hatfield; grandchildren, Shawn Sherwood, Chad Sherwood and wife, Darcie, Justin Stogdill, Valerie Vandervort, Mike Vandervort, Lisa Hatfield, Laura Hatfield, Michelle Burns, and Chad Lovell; great grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Camden and Alexis Burns, and Celestial and Luna Galvan; sister, Teena Sandry of Belmond, Ia; brother, Jake Gruis of Apopka, Fl; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orville Vandervort and her second husband, Paul Hatfield.

Visitation will be held 4 – 7 p.m., Sunday, July 6 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Central Iowa, Knoxville Office.
