Karl W. Young II, 69, entered the gates of heaven on December 30, 2014. Karl was born November 2, 1945, the third child of Carl William Young Sr. and Barbara Lee (Fleener) Young. He grew up in Ottumwa, graduated from Ottumwa High School Class of 1963, and graduated from Grandview College Class of 1972. He worked for Burlington Route, John Deere Ottumwa Works, Anderson Chemical, Big A Auto Parts, Rissman Auto Parts, and the City of Des Moines, where he retired after 29 years. Karl married the love of his life, Linda Marie Schecter in 1968. Karl was the father of two, Melissa Lynn (Young) Evans and Christopher Aaron Young, and later became the proud grandfather of Brianna Evans (10), and Chase (8) and Grant (6) Young. Karl adored his family, and enjoyed camping, traveling (particularly to Hawaii), tinkering with old cars, and was a jack of all trades, and master of none. Most of all, Karl loved spending time with his family and held a special place in his heart for them all. Karl will be dearly missed by Linda, his wife of 46 years, daughter Melissa (Sam Evans), son Christopher (Kim), twin brother Clair (Sherry), brother-in-law Donald Schecter, several nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Barbara Young, and his sister and brother-in-law, Judy (Young) and Jim Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, at Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland, Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 4, at Overton Funeral Home with family present from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to UnityPoint Hospice, and Park Avenue Presbyterian Church.
