Funeral services for Karen (Wood) Jensen, 52, who died Friday, November 6, 2009 in Freeport County, Minnesota, will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 11 at the New Virginia United Methodist Church in New Virginia, IA. Burial will follow in the New Virginia Cemetery.

Karen Sue Wood Jensen was born February 14, 1957 in Beech, Iowa to Ruth Ann Schumacher and Orville Fred Wood.

Karen graduated from New Virginia High School in 1975. While continuing her education at DMACC, she lived with dear family friends Dick and Glenda Millard. She graduated with her associates of arts degree in 1977.

She was employed by Iowa Workforce Development in Des Moines for 24 years. She also enjoyed her part time work with Link Associates for many years.

She was united in marriage to Rick Jensen on June 23, 2001.

Karen was a very loving and caring daughter, wife, sister and friend. She enjoyed her nieces and nephew, step daughters and grandchildren; they adored her. She was fond of her father-in-law, Dean Jensen, brothers-in-law, Sam and Reggie and special friend Mag Blair.

She grew up in the New Virginia United Methodist Church and at the time of her death was a member of the Altoona United Methodist Church. She had a very strong faith.

She is survived by her husband, Rick; step daughters, Jordan, Jillian and Jentry; mother, Ruth Wood; brothers, Fred (Sandy) and Steve (Connie) Wood; sister, Patricia (Bill) Niebes; nieces, Kimberly, Christy, Marcy, and Jackie; and nephew, Brian. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her father, Orville.

Visitation will be held 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 10 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to New Virginia United Methodist Church.
