Obituary

Karen A. Duncan, 74, of Liberty Center, Iowa, left this world on January 9, 2022, to take her place in heaven continuing God's work.

Karen was born on March 31,1947, to Frank and Jorie Budd in Bellevue, Illinois. She moved to Indianola in 1950, living there her entire life until graduating in 1965.  Following school, she continued her education at AIB, when she accepted Jim's proposal and moved to "God's Country", where they started their life together.

Karen and Jim began dating in 1961 when Karen was just 15.  They married October 9, 1965, and to this union they were blessed with three children: Deanna 1966, Kristi 1971, and Wesley 1976.  Together they carved out a life on the farm. They raised thousands of pigs, rescued and nursed bottle calves back to health, and she took pleasure in fulfilling her passion with horses.

As her parents aged, she provided care to them in their home until her mother's health declined, which necessitated nursing care.  So, Karen-like; she took a job at Good Sam to ensure the daily care of her mother.  Following her mother's death, she began her career at the Southeast Warren Community School District for 18 years, helping children often who were at-risk of not graduating to complete their education.  Not only did she assist with their education, but she also taught life skills, life lessons, and provided never ending encouragement to ensure that all their needs were met.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dr. Betty (Budd) Korte and brother, Frank G. Budd.  She is survived by her husband, Jim; their three children, Deanna Hommer, Kristi Dierking (Dave), Wesley Duncan (Abbey); son in-law, Phil Hommer and sister in-law, Yvonne Budd; grandchildren, Derek Hommer (Ashley), Torie Bell (Remington), TJ Dierking, Koby Clary (Angel), Tanner Dierking, Tristen Duncan, Tate Dierking, Isabelle Duncan, Taren Dierking, Tucker Dierking, Elly Duncan, and Jorie Duncan; great-granddaughter,s Kynlee Hommer, Paislee Bell, and too many families and friends to mention.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 15 th , 2022, at the Southeast Warren High School in Liberty Center from 4 to p.m. with a vigil service commencing at 6 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to the family for a scholarship to be named later.
