Services for Junella Mae De Goey, 89, of Pleasantville, Iowa, who passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, in Des Moines, will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will follow services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Junella Mae (DeZwarte) De Goey was born on a farm 1½ miles south of Pella, Iowa.  She started country school at the age of four.  When she was 13, she started working at the Garden Square Restaurant.  In May of 1952, she graduated from high school and joined the 3rd Reformed Church in Pella.  In June she was baptized and made Confession of Faith.

On August 15, 1952 she was united in marriage to Marvin Gary De Goey at the Leighton Reformed Church.  On March 1, 1954, they moved to the DeZwarte farm south of Pella where she was proud to be a full-time farm wife with milk cows, sows to farrow, and a couple of boxes of baby chicks.  They moved to what is now known as "De Goey Farms" in Pleasantville on March 1, 1962.

Junella enjoyed making memories taking her grandchildren to bible school and the Iowa State Fair.  She also made full meals for every occasion with more food than could possibly be eaten.

Junella, leaves a rich legacy of family and faith.

She is survived by her children, Karla (Darrell) Labertew and Lyle (Reeca) De Goey; grandchildren, Ryan (Christie) Labertew, Holly De Goey, Ashten (Rob) Hayes, Chauncee (Jimmy) Hyde, Kristine (Travis) Houseman; great-grandchildren, Faith and Noah Labertew, Jantz and Jerzey Hyde, Payton and Berkeley Houseman and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin De Goey; parents, Henry Michael and Dorothy Mae (Goemaat) DeZwarte; sister, Ruthie Eysink.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 17 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Memorials can be made in memory of Junella to St. Jude's Hospital and the Iowa Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. The family would like to express their appreciation to all of their friends and family for their thoughts and prayers during this time.
