IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia "Julie"
Harkin
August 15, 1956 – February 26, 2024
Julia Rose Harkin was born on August 15, 1956 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines to Cyril Harkin and Mary (Brick) Harkin. Julie passed away unexpectedly at home on February 26, 2024 due to complications from diabetes and heart problems.
Julie was raised in Cumming, Iowa; the third of six children. She attended school at Cumming until it was consolidated into Norwalk. Julie was a proud member of Norwalk High School's class of 1974. Julie was also a proud member of the hippie generation; until the very end, she loved tie-dye, peace signs and patchouli oil.
Julie worked hard at a number of jobs; she worked in restaurants, a juke box restoration company and nursing homes. Working in nursing homes took a toll on her back and she retired early due to disability. Julie in lived the Warren/Polk area after high school but later moved north, living in Boxholm for a number of years. Julie never had children, but she counted many kids as her own.
Julie is survived by her siblings, Mike (Ginny) Harkin, Mark (Carolyn) Harkin, Virginia "Ginger" Harkin, Joan (Larry Harryman) Harkin and Andy "Hector" Harkin; nieces and nephews Paul Harkin, Sheri Coughennower, David Coughennower (Jody Engstrom), Elizabeth Rucker, Zach (Chelsea) Harryman, Hayley Harkin Lincoln and Mary Harryman; great nieces and nephews Jake Coughennower, Braelynn Wickett, Ryan Harryman, Logan Harryman, Landon Lincoln and Savannah Jo Lincoln; great-great nephew Jace Coughennower plus many other relatives and friends. Julie is also survived by her longtime boyfriend Keith Lind. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Mary Harkin.
Visitation will be held starting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday February 29, 2024, with a rosary at 1:45. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at the St. John's Cemetery, Cumming, Iowa. An informal gathering of family and friends will take place at the Cumming Tap following burial.
ILYM: "I love you more." We love you, Julie.
Memorials in her honor may be given to the family.
