Obituary

Judy Aksland-Hendricks, 79, of Ackworth, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Westview Care Center in Indianola. No services are planned at this time.

Judy was born November 2, 1945 to Torjus and Marjorie (Osmundson) Aksland. Judy was a dedicated teacher teaching all levels of science at the high school and college levels. She always tried to get the best out her students. One of Judy's students commented after their first year of college, "I learned so much at Lincoln, I didn't need to open a book in Freshman Biology."

Judy loved the outdoors. She took over Ace's recliner so she could see more birds and wildlife outside their house. Judy and Ace's free time and vacations were mostly outdoor related. They enjoyed walks in the woods, sitting in the foothills of South Dakota listening for bugling elk, watching the awe spiring Buffalo Round Up in Custer State Park, and spending time in the back of brother-in-law's boat catching then eating fish from the Missouri River. A trip to Decorah was made annually to attend the Nordic Fest. Judy was always helping people in need. Time spent with Judy was always positive and joyous.

She is survived by her husband, Ace; sisters, Linda Rozenboom and Susan Beckstrand; 4 nieces and 3 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Marcus.

Judy was one of the founding members of the "Friends of Warren County Conservation" forming in 1994 and she served for 29 years.  Memorials in memory of Judy may be given to the Nature Play Scape for Kids at the Warren County Conservation Board Office 15565 118th Ave. Indianola, IA 50125.
