Joyce was born in Indianola, Iowa and graduated from Indianola High School in 1963. She worked for Banker's Life, Krier Homes, Midwest Uncuts and as a cook at the Cottage Inn in Indianola. She enjoyed her grandchildren, crafts, crocheting, knitting, and going to garage sales. She and her husband, Curly, wintered in Weslaco, Texas for the past 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, Gail "Curly" Vickroy; sons, Todd (Ronna) and Mark (Diane) Vickroy all of Indianola; mother, Polly Rakes and brother, Dwight Rakes of Camdenton, MO; sister, Carole Lawler of Milo; 4 grandchildren, Chad Bottorff, Breanna Vickroy, Bailey Vickroy and Bryant Vickroy. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Rakes.

Visitation will be held 2:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 24 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society.
