Services for John Kersey, 89, of Indianola, who passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2025, will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

John David Kersey was born in 1936 to Thomas Roy and Charlotte (Bresee) Kersey in Carroll County, Iowa and the family then moved to Guthrie Center, Iowa.  In 1964 John married Patricia Jean Hill and they moved to Indianola.  After a divorce John then married Rosemary Hope Shackson in 1975.

John had lived in Indianola for 61 years and worked for the City of Indianola in the Street Department for 29 years.  After retirement John enjoyed traveling with his wife and step-son.  He also enjoyed playing pool and cribbage at the Indianola Senior Center and his trips to Walmart.

He is survived by his daughters, Joni (Keith) Shelton and Jane (Nicky) Zwer; step-son David (Monica) Rasmussen and step-daughter, Donna (Joe) Cambre; grandchildren, Heather (RJ) Beem, Amy (Travis) Conger, Melissa Cambre, Hunter Cambre, Phoebe (Derek) Fields, Shyanna (Jeff) Zwer, Zeth Zwer, Olivia Shelton and Rose Rasmussen and great-grandchildren, Lilly and Greyson Beem and Bentlee Snyder.  He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Kersey; parents, Roy and Charlotte Kersey; siblings, Roy Kersey Jr., Harold Kersey, Keith Kersey, Richard Kersey and Mary Tague and step-son Rolland Rasmussen.

Visitation will be held prior to services from 9 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.  Memorials in memory of John may be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Indianola Senior Center.
