JOHN GIDEON Indianola Services for John Gideon, 76, who went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center, will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 31 at the Indianola Regular Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Webb Cemetery in Norwalk. John was born June 19, 1934, to James and Harriet (Lundy) Gideon. He spent his career as a tool and die maker, retiring from John Deere Des Moines Works in 1996. His interests were varied and included farming and aviation. As a faithful member of the Regular Baptist Church in Indianola, he served many years as a deacon, Sr. High Sunday School Awana Teacher and usher, as well as working on many remodeling projects. John was a much loved faithful husband and dad. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; granddaughter, Kelly Sims; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Weldon. He is survived by his wife, Janis (Harvey) Gideon; children, Laura Flinn of Norwalk, James (Pam) Gideon of Norwalk; Joan (Terry) Gladfelter of Indianola, John (Rhonda) Gideon of Norwalk, Nadine (Scott) Sims of Pleasantville and Lisa (Allen) Ihnen of Ankeny; brothers, Warren (Ann) Gideon and Martin (Lori) Gideon; 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 5:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, May 30 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianola Regular Baptist Church Building Fund.
