Funeral services for John Ferdinand Miller, 101, who died Saturday, February 20, 2010, at home will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in New Virginia Cemetery, New Virginia, IA.
John graduated from Jefferson High School and went on and graduated from Iowa State University. After college he ran a creamery in Churdan and was a trucker. John moved to Warren County in 1939 where he farmed and worked for Swift and Company packing house where he retired from in 1967. He continued to farm until his wife passed away in 2004 when he moved to rural Indianola to live with his son James (Jimmy). John was very proud of his extended family and always had pictures of them on display. He really enjoyed working with the sheep and mowing in the pasture.
John is survived by his sons, James (Ella) of Indianola, Dennis (Dee Dee) of Mulberry, Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oleata; daughter, Janet Russell; parents and an infant brother.
Visitation will be held 4 – 8p.m., Wednesday, February 24 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 6 – 8p.m. to greet friends. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa in his name.
