John Paul
Crouch
February 27, 1932 – July 9, 2023
John Paul Crouch was born February 27, 1932 in Des Moines, IA to Paul and Leona Crouch. He graduated from Lincoln High School in January of 1950. John achieved his goal of obtaining his law degree from Drake University in 1969. After serving in Korea, John returned home and married Phyllis Ransom Crouch in 1955. They raised two sons, David Alan and John Russell.
Throughout his life he held positions in many companies and agencies. One of John's greatest achievements was becoming Associate District Court Judge, 5th Judicial District in 1975.
After family and work, his greatest passion was playing cribbage and obtaining the rank of Grand Master. John served the community in the following ways: past President of Fort Des Moines Little League, past President of Warren County Bar Association, Member of South Gate Masonic Lodge # 657, Warren County Child Abuse Prevention Council, and The Des Moines Metro Opera. John was the recipient of the Simpson College Buxton Award, and Alumni Hall of Fame from Lincoln High School.
Survivors include his sister, Sally Smith; sons, David (Karen), John (Patti); John had a special bond with each of his grandchildren, Christopher (Erin), Kathryn (Jonathan) D'Souza, Michele (Justin) Bjerke, and William Crouch; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Gabrielle Crouch, Benedict D'Souza, Madilyn and Monroe Bjerke. He will be missed by many other special relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; his parents; sister, Judy Cross and brother, Robert Crouch.
John was fortunate to have had the companionship of Mildred Sargent until her passing. Her daughter, Kathy Putney was a special friend until John's passing on Sunday, July 9, 2023 in Des Moines.
Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, July 15, at Overton Funeral Home with burial following in the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 14 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. A Masonic service will be held 7 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kiya Koda Humane Society or Farmers Chapel United Methodist Church.
