JOHN C. BLACKMORE Indianola Funeral services for John C. Blackmore, 74, who passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Westview Care Center in Indianola will be held, 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 23 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his Lord and was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He loved his country and served in the United States Air Force for three years. He was united in marriage to Dorris Strader on April 13, 1963 and they celebrated 51 years of marriage. John worked for UPI news service; attended AIB graduating with a BA degree in business; then worked for US West Communications retiring in 2002. John is survived by his loving wife, Dorris; daughter, Sherri (Steve) Lewison, three grandsons, Spencer, Seth and Nathan; daughter, Cheryl Weeks; and daughter, Marsha (David) Tucker and grandson, Courtney Morris and great-granddaughter, Izzy Morris; brother, Wade; sisters-in-law, Iris (Marvin) Karickhoff and Willa Lucas; and brother-in-law, James Strader. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mable Blackmore; brother-in-law, Ray Lucas and grandson, Dustin Morris. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 22 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends.
