Memorial services for Joel Dwight Vaughn, 63, who passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held prior to service from 1 to 3 p.m.

Joel Dwight Vaughn, the son of Joe and Marvis (Trotter) Vaughn, was born on January 29, 1959 in Newton, IA. Joel attended Newton High School before working for his father's company, Vaughn Flooring. Joel and Patricia had 3 children: Travis, Trevor, and Tiffany. They moved to Pensacola, Florida in 1988, one of Joel's favorite places. Joel started his own business, JD Flooring, when he came back to Iowa, teaching his children the family trade. In 1999 Joel bought his first home near Rock Creek Lake.

Joel enjoyed playing cribbage, mushroom hunting, riding dirtbikes and fourwheelers, foosball, pinball, fishing, hunting, and drinking Busch beer around a fire with his friends. Joel had a love for Chevelles, spending time with his kids and grandkids, and riding his Harley-Davidson. Joel was a fighter who worked hard and took on every challenge life threw his way while enjoying life and filling those around him with laughter. Joel died at the age of 63, on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 in Pleasantville, Iowa.

He is survived by his children, Travis (Anna) Vaughn, Trevor (Brianna) Vaughn, Tiffany (Brandon) Pennington; grandchildren, Taylor and Brooke Vaughn, Audrey, Averie, Evarly Vaughn, Tegan and Easton Pennington, Karter Collum; sister, Julie (Randy) McConnell; niece and nephew, Amanda Omann and Cory McConnell; best friend, Buck Morrison; and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marvis Vaughn and lifelong friend, Philip Townsend.
