Joe Worden, 78, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines. Joe was born on March 5th, 1936 in Decatur County to Harvey and Belva (Harris) Worden. He was a graduate of Leon High School where he participated in football and track. On July 20, 1956, Joe married Kay Darrah from Chariton. The couple lived in Des Moines then moved to Indianola in 1962. To this union, 2 daughters were born, Julie and Deb. Joe worked for Vy Lactos Laboratories and Pharm Tech International for a combined 50 years. Joe cherished life and had many interests. He enjoyed working on cars as well as watching car races. He liked being outdoors, gardening, doing yard work, walking, and riding his bike. Joe loved country music, especially the steel guitar. He and his family made quite a few trips to Branson and Nashville to see country music shows. Joe was an avid sports fan, with the Hawkeyes, Cyclones, and Chicago Bears among his favorites. Family was Joe's greatest love. He enjoyed attending his children's and grand children's events and activities. Family vacations and family gather were a big part of his life. Joe is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Kay, of Indianola; daughters Julie (Steve) Bradshaw of Johnston, and Deb (Lyle) Ziskovsky of Dallas Center; sisters Phyllis Barry of Urbandale and Pam Worden of Urbandale; brother Max (Beverly) Worden of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren Melissa (Jamel) Crawford of Des Moines, Scott (Elizabeth) Gates of Des Moines, April (Adam Bartelt) Ziskovsky of Des Moines, Jill (Tyler) Halcomb of Waukee and Kelli (Mark) Holan of Prairie City; great-grandchildren Brooke Keller and Jace Crawford. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Belva Worden and infant sister, Judy.
