Jessie Mae Smith, 86, passed away June 19, 2020, in Indianola, IA. Graveside burial of cremains will be held in the Humeston Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2020.
Jessie Mae was born October 16, 1933 in Cleopatra, Missouri to Arthur and Lucy Gladfelder. Two years after graduating from Lineville High School she married her high school sweetheart Dick Smith. She and Dick were married 62 years and blessed with eight children. Jessie Mae and family moved frequently around the United States following Dick's occupation.
Jessie Mae spent most of her life looking after the home and children. Later in life she became a CNA helping at Clearview Manor in Prairie City. During retirement she and Dick became snowbirds often ending up in St. Petersburg, FL. Jessie Mae and Dick were both active members in the Methodist Church in Humeston.
Jessie Mae is survived by her children, Allan (Melody) Smith, Kathy Townsell, Marcia (Tony Doyle) Smith, Jeff (Angie) Smith, James Smith, Kurt (Pam) Smith, Mike Smith, Sara (Quinn Roney) Preston; 28 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dick; parents, Arthur and Lucy Gladfelder; siblings, Charles Aaron Gladfelder, Margilou Clement, Arthur and Marilyn Gladfelder; grandson, Kile Kain; daughter-in-law, De Smith; son-in-law, Clifton Townsell; brothers-in-law, Jack (Betty) Perkins, Lee Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in her name for a contribution at a later date.
