IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jerry Swan
Sternquist
July 6, 1938 – September 15, 2010
Jerry S. Sternquist, son of Clifford and Leota (McNew) Sternquist was born on July 6, 1938, in Indianola, IA, and passed from this life to his eternal home on September 15, 2010, after a 4 year battle with esophagus cancer. He was 72 years of age.
Jerry was a life-long resident of Indianola and graduated from Indianola High School in 1956. After graduation, Jerry joined his father and brother in the family concrete business Sternquist & Sons which later became Sternquist Construction. He was proud of the business and took pride in the workmanship of the many driveways, sidewalks and roads that still exist today. At age 48, Jerry retired from the family business. He spent his retirement doing the things that he enjoyed – fishing, playing cards and spending time with his friends and family. Jerry loved a good joke. He had a warm smile, a gentle nature and a good sense of humor. He was a member of the American Legion Hall and served his country by joining the Army from 1961 to 1963.
Jerry was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Lola; sons Jeff (Amy) Sternquist of Des Moines and Britt (Jodi) Sternquist of Indianola; three grandsons – Daniel, Jacob and David all of Des Moines; sister Gloriene (John) Clum of Sun Lakes, AZ, and brother, Larry (JoAnn) Sternquist of Lake Wales, FL. Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Ann Lewis.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Indianola Community Church with burial at the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, September 17th from 5 to 8 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Memorial contributions can be made to the Warren County American Cancer Society, Indianola Community Church or Care Initiatives. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com .
Jerry's family gives a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Care Initiatives for their loving care of Jerry.
