JERRY LEE PORTER

A Celebration of Life Service for Jerry Lee Porter, 77, who passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Jerry Lee Porter was born September 9, 1940 at the home of Melvin and Helen (Spurgin) Porter. Jerry his brother, Charles, and sister, Lynn, grew up on the family farm north of Beech, Iowa. He attended Beech school and graduated with the Pleasantville class of 1958. Jerry went on to attend and play baseball at Iowa State. He and Janet Clark married and returned to the family farm in 1959. They had three children, Lori, Lisa and Craig.

In 1982, Jerry and Deb (Lorimor Wilson) were married and blended two families, bringing Phil Steve and Jacque to the farm.

In 1991, Jerry retired from farming and moved the family into Pleasantville. He sold real estate for Peoples Company and went on to work as a salesman at Greenberg's Jewelry.

In 1994, Jerry and Deb moved to Carroll where he was a salesman for Lou Walsh Motors until 2011.

In 2016, Jerry and Deb moved back to Indianola to be closer to the kids and grandkids. He spent the past year at West View Care Center where he passed away surrounded by family.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah; children, Lori (Chad) Keilor, Richard Krichau, Craig (Julie) Porter, Philip (Clisty) Porter, Steve (Jenn) Porter, Jacque (Brian) Perkins; grandchildren, Adam (Kate) Grady, Josh (Allison) Krichau, Adam (Megan) Krichau, Maiga (Joe) VanHaalen, Nick Porter, Frankie Porter, Jackson Porter, Katie Porter, Paige Porter, Alanah Vetterick, Ethan Vetterick, Dakota Perkins, Jack Perkins, Taylor Perkins; 8 great-grandchildren; mother, Helen M; brother, Charles; sister, Lynne.  He was preceded in death by his father Melvin Porter and daughter Lisa Krichau.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 26 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll or the Pleasantville Booster Club.
