Jeanne Janes, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Indianola, Iowa on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

Jeanne was born on September 17, 1935 in Swea City, Iowa to Hans and Sara (Trouth) Hanson.  She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1953 and married Richard Janes in 1954.  They resided in Webster City, Iowa for 59 years until 2014 when they moved to Indianola to be with their children.  Jeanne's primary job was a stay-at-home mom, as her children grew, she held several part-time jobs which included the hot lunch program at Webster City School System, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Webster City Products.  She was a long-time active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City and transferred her membership to Redeemer Lutheran Church when she moved to Indianola.

Jeanne along with her sister Betty attended Hylandale Church School in Rockland, Wisconsin where she learned her love of baking and made the most amazing pies, cakes and cookies.  She enjoyed quilting, was an avid card player, loved bike riding so much that she rode RAGBRAI for ten years starting with the second ride.  She also enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, decorative egg art and most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Janes; son, Keith Janes; daughters, Barbara (Gerald) Knoll, Susan Prather and Cheryl (Jeff) Harvey; son, Lloyd (Cheryl) Janes; daughter, Karen (Alan) Archibold all of Indianola; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother and one sister; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Wayne Prather; brother, Kenny Hanson; and sisters, Elaine Kaufman, Leona Smith and Lavonne Brawley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 27, 2024 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Indianola.  Memorial contributions may be made in Jeanne's memory to UnityPoint Hospice.
