Services for Janette (Jan) Marie Johnston, 63, who died Thursday, January 15, 2009, will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 19, 2009, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  Burial will follow in Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Jan was born December 15, 1945 in Plum City, WI, the daughter of Jimmie and Lorayne Houser.  In 1968 she graduated from Harding College in Arkansas.  She met and married Gene Johnston on June 12, 1971.  Jan spent her life teaching and was an elementary and preschool teacher.  She loved working with children.  She was also a dedicated member of the Evergreen Church of Christ in Des Moines.  She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gene Johnston; children and spouses, Kevin and Kristen Johnston of Topeka, KS, Jill and Sammie Young of Manassas, VA and Wes and Monica Johnston of Iowa City, IA; father, Jimmie Houser of St. Paul, MN; brothers, Roger and Don Houser of St. Paul, MN.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorayne Houser.

Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m., Sunday, January 18 at Overton Funeral Home with family present to greet friends.  Memorials may be given to Ronald McDonald House.
