Janelle “Jan” Lynn Boozell, 71, of Milo passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at MercyOne Medical in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by the love of her family. A Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Jan shared a life filled with love and laughter with her devoted husband, Larry Boozell. Together they built a family that remained the center of her world. She was a proud mother to her sons, Loren (Shawna) Boozell and Ryan (Denise) Boozell.

Nothing brought Jan more joy than being "Grandma." She treasured every opportunity to cheer on her grandchildren at their sporting events, school activities, and milestones. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Taylor (Jimmy) Aiello, Peyton (Emily) Boozell, Luke Boozell, Easton Boozell, Blake (Montana) Upchurch, Bradyn Upchurch, Blaine Upchurch, and Avery Boozell. She was also blessed with the joy of becoming a great-grandmother to Andersen Upchurch, who brought a special smile to her face.

Jan had a personality that was impossible to miss. She was rarely seen without what looked like an entire jewelry store's worth of necklaces, bracelets, and rings, each piece adding a little extra sparkle to her day. She was an avid reader who always had a book nearby—so much so that one of her family's first thoughts after her passing was making sure her library books were returned on time.

She loved shopping and found great happiness in giving thoughtful gifts to the people she loved. She enjoyed trying her luck at the casino and delighted in texting her grandchildren whenever she hit a big jackpot. In fact, one of the happiest developments for her family was when she learned how to text, allowing her to keep everyone updated on her adventures, celebrations, and everyday life. Those messages will be treasured and deeply missed.

A devoted sports fan, Jan faithfully rooted for the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys, standing by her teams through every exciting victory and every frustrating disappointment. She also loved spending time in the kitchen, where she baked cookies, brownies, and countless other desserts that became family favorites. Her recipes were made with love, and her treats will be missed almost as much as the woman who made them.

More than anything, Jan will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family. Whether she was cheering from the stands, sending a text just to say hello, celebrating someone else's accomplishments, or simply making sure everyone had something sweet to eat, she made those around her feel loved.

Her family will forever cherish the memories they shared and will carry her love with them always.
