Obituary

Jane Ann Putney passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home where she lived, Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Indianola, Iowa. She was 84. A visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, August 16, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Services will be held 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17, at New Heights Church in Indianola.

Jane was born June 12, 1942, to Charles and Dorothy (Robins) Propst. She grew up on a farm west of Osceola and graduated from Osceola High School. During high school, she met her husband, Dale Putney, from New Virginia. Dale and Jane married on March 4, 1960 and lived in Osceola. They moved to Indianola, where they purchased their farm in 1963. Those fortunate enough to witness their love know it was unmatched.

Jane was ambitious, working hard all her life. Her first job was with Farm Bureau Life. She later took a position with the State of Iowa in the trucking and transportation division. Jane eventually left the workforce to help on the farm and raise her children. In addition to caring for her family and keeping up with chores, she tended to a very large garden and many beautiful flowerbeds. Jane went back to work at Indianola Community School District as a food service worker, once all her children were in school. She was a gifted cook, using her heart instead of a measuring cup. Recipes were simply a guide, not the rule. After her third hip replacement in 1988, Jane officially retired.

Jane’s faith was strong and she served in many positions at First Baptist Church in Indianola. She spent time as a Bible school teacher, deaconess, Sunday school treasurer and member of the Board of Christian Education. In her spare time, she enjoyed raising animals on the farm, sewing and quilting and taking vacations with her children and grandchildren.

Jane took pride in being a wife, mom and grandma. She is survived by her three children, Rodney (Lou Ann) Putney, Cindy (Bart) Brummer and Debbie (Marty) Miller, all of Indianola; her siblings, Chuck (Rose) Propst and Janice Goodrich, along with her sister-in-law, Mary Berry-Rodda and brother-in-law, Pete (Carol) Putney; her grandchildren, Hannah (David) Paul, Ethan Putney, Amy (Adam) Seibert, Jacob Putney, Zachary (Nicola) Brummer, Weston (Ashley) Brummer, Dillion (Renea) Brummer, Cody Brummer, Seth (Taylor) Brummer, Sidney (Brooks) Brown and Colton (Cierra) Miller, her 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; her sister, Jeanette; and her beloved dog, Maggie.
