Graveside services for James "Jim" Tilford, 82, who passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2019, will be held 12 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019, at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, IA.
Jim was born April 19, 1937 at home in New Virginia, IA to James A. and Wilma Marie (Baker) Tilford. Jim attended New Virginia school graduating in 1955. Jim joined the Army in January of 1960 and served in Korea as a Morse code interpreter. He was honorably discharged with a bullet in his leg.
Jim had many lines of occupation. He owned the Skelly Station with Howard Sargent and Bill Dickerson. He drove Ready Mixed truck for Bell Wood Ready Mixed, night batch man with Bellwood for pouring concrete on the Laverty Elevator. Poured concrete for S&J Concrete and then went back to school for accounting and worked as a bookkeeper for Equitable of Iowa. He stocked shelves for Walmart until his retirement.
Jim had a love for rabbit hunting, fishing bullheads, guitar music, pool, pitch, cribbage, remembering old stories and having a cold beer with friends.
He will be missed by his friends and the Hide Out family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Wilma Tilford; sister, Joan Butz.
Memorials may be given to your local VFW or American Legion Post in his honor.
