Obituary

James Richard Rush was born May 29, 1930, and passed away September 9, 2026, at the age of 96. He was born in Minot, North Dakota to Ira L. Rush and Eula B. Rush. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering, he was commissioned in the Army. Jim was assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers at Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. He had requested to be assigned to Greenland to gain more cold weather experience. But the assignment to Ladd AFB was good. His base housing officer, Virginia, became his wife (neither outranked the other!). On discharge, they moved to Minnesota, then, full-circle for Jim—back to Minot, North Dakota. He was a partner in SSR Consulting Engineers, a regional consulting firm, specializing in mechanical, electrical, and power systems engineering. Jim’s legacy to his family was to plan always for the future.

He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Wilson, and Barbara Rush, nine grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Virginia, and son, James.

Inurnment with full military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026 in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
