Obituary

James C. Patrick passed away peacefully on December 5, 2010 at The Village in Indianola, Iowa. He was born September 30, 1920 in Prole, Iowa to Milton G. and Louise (Banta) Patrick. Services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Jim graduated from New Virginia High School in 1938. He married Ruth L. Harris August 10, 1941 at Maysville, Missouri. Together, they made their home in Indianola raising three children and a granddaughter. They also hosted a foreign exchange student, Brigitte Fallott, who became just as dear to them as their own. Jim served during WW II as a pharmacist mate with the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. He worked with several companies after the war, retiring from Farmland Insurance in 1985 after 23 years. He also served as minister at Palmyra, Broadhorn, New Virginia Christian and Indianola Friends churches. He was an active member of the Warren County Historical Society, American Legion Post #165, Indianola Lions Club, the Warren Lodge #53 AF & AM, and First United Methodist Church. He is survived by sons, Richard P. Patrick and J. Steven Patrick; grandchildren, Deanna M. (Eric McLuen) Overton, Christine (Kenny Schleich) Patrick, Joseph (Eileen) Patrick, Linda Patrick, Casey (Jamie) Patrick, Michael Patrick, and Joshua (Haley Funk) Patrick; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents, siblings and daughter and son-in-law, R. Elaine (Patrick) and R. Richard Overton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Legion Post #165, Warren County Historical Society or First United Methodist Church of Indianola.
