Obituary

Jim Parker, 82, died peacefully Saturday, September 26, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born October 7, 1926 in Des Moines where he lived all his life. Jim graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943 where he was captain of the swim team. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII and upon returning to Des Moines worked for the Des Moines Union Railroad, retiring in 1988 after 42 years of loyal service.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter, Sharon Parker-Lenihan and son-in-law, Tom Lenihan; son, Jim Parker and daughter-in-law, Linda Parker; and nephew, John Bumgardner. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Ruth (Archer) Parker.

Jim loved the purr of an engine, the roar of a motor, and the grain of a fine piece of wood. He loved traveling with wife Joan, coming to see his children perform, and making everyone laugh. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service is planned for 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Wallace Cemetery in Wick, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lincoln High School Alumni Association.
