Celebration of life Services for James P. Nelsen, 71, who passed away Friday, September 27, 2019, will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Indianola, IA. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date in the Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, IA.

Jim was born on February 17, 1948 in McCook, NE. Jim graduated from UNSA high school in Curtis, NE in 1966. After high school, Jim attended the Univesity of Nebraska where he earned  BS degree in Agronomy.

Jim spent the majority of his career as an Operations Manager in seed corn research. Jim helped oversee the development of several successful corn hybrids that are still in production to this day.

Jim was well known for his warm smile and kind heart that always encouraged those around him.  He loved sports, and really enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids compete.  His favorite color was red for two reasons: The Huskers, and International Harvester.  In honor of him we want to encourage everyone to wear red to his visitation.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Clint (Mandi) Nelsen and their children Elle, Lane and Tyde; Neil (Kelly) Nelsen and their children Aspen, Grady, Casen and Holden; sister Diane (Larry) Pollmann and her family; and several cousins whom he adored dearly.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 2 at the First Baptist Church in Indianola. Memorials may be given in his name to Hope Lodge in Omaha, NE.
