Services for James Dean Miller, 92, of Indianola, who passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the New Virginia Cemetery, New Virginia, Iowa.

Jim was born in Churdan, Iowa on June 1, 1933 to John and Oleata (Dagit) Miller.  The family moved to a farm near New Virginia where he attended Big Rock Country School until consolidation into the New Virginia Schools.  He traveled into town by school bus until he graduated in 1952.

Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army serving during the Korean Conflict.  In December of 1953 he was home on furlough when he and Ella Wheeler were united in marriage on December 27, 1953.  To this union five children were born, Lowell, Kevin, Janell, Tena and Scott.  The family moved to their currant farm in March of 1968.

Surviving is his wife, Ella Miller; children, Lowell (Cheryl) Miller, Kevin (Judi) Miller, Janell Miller, Tena (David) Richards and Scott (Diane) Miller; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death parents; great-grandson, J.D. Miller; brother, Dennis Miller and sister, Janet Russell.

Visitation will be held prior to services from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials in memory of Jim may be made to Make a Wish Foundation.
