A Celebration of Life Service for James Blanchard Holland, 80, of Indianola, who passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 in Des Moines, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to services.  Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Jim was born in Olin, Iowa. He moved to Indianola as a young child where he spent the remainder of his life.

Jim began his career of 37 years at Farm Bureau at the age of 18. There he met a cute girl, Cheryl, who was working in the typing pool. They began dating soon after and have been married for 58 years.

Those who knew Jim, knew him as a kind, humble man who loved his family dearly. He loved to travel and camp which lead to many different campers and vehicles over the years. The family spent a lot of summers in Branson where they enjoyed boating, fishing and many memories. Jim was a man of many hobbies that were ever changing which included woodworking, gardening, bird watching, photography and numerous more. Time with Jim was filled with family, friends, laughter and lots of sweets.

Regardless of Jim's multiple health issues, it did not stop him from living life to the fullest.

Jim is survived by his wife Cheryl; sons Jon (Justine) Holland and Rob (Laura) Holland; grandchildren, Nolan Murphy, Grant (Delanie) Johnson, Brandon Holland, Mallory Murphy, Bruce Johnson, Jenny Holland, Alex Holland, Drake (Madyson) Johnson and Miranda Murphy; and brother, Donald (Dorothy) Holland.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elizabeth Holland; and siblings, Nancy Isebrand, Frank Holland and Larry Holland.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Jim to the Warren County Historical Society.
