Services for James Edward Hansen, 72, who passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, in Des Moines, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2022, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The visitation will be held prior to services from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Bauer Cemetery, Lacona, IA.
Jim was born on January 6, 1950, in Lincoln, Nebraska. On February 24, 1973, Jim was united in marriage to Regina (Genie) Ann Schneider in Bauer, Iowa. Jim and Genie enjoyed traveling the United States by motorcycle for many years. Jim was a mechanic until he "retired", and still continued to work on cars and neighborhood farming equipment. He was a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters for over 20 years. He also enjoyed being a member of the classic car group, Early Wheels, as well as their neighborhood one-room schoolhouse community center, Hoosier Row. Jim and Genie enjoyed traveling south during the winter months and to see friends and family in various states. He found joy in making music, woodworking, fishing, golfing, cribbage, backgammon, and cards.
Jim is survived by his wife, Genie; daughter, Lindsay (Mike) Steding; granddaughters, MacKenzie and Ashlyn Steding; siblings, Judy (Dwayne) Gibbons, Betty Hansen, Mary (Mike) Walkup, Jeanne Hansen and Janice (Harlan) Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Magdalene Hansen, siblings, Ron Hansen, Karen Miller and Sharon Rummelhart.
