James Franklin Elmore Indianola Jim was born October 7, 1933 to Eugene Frederick Elmore and Atha Dahlene (Taylor) Elmore. He has a brother Bob 16 months his junior. They grew up up typical boys of the time, having paper routes and playing sports, especially American Legion Baseball. Jim graduated from North High School in Des Moines, and then attended and played basketball at Moberly Junior College and Iowa State Teachers College. On July 18, 1959 Jim married Gloria Ann Howard. In November 1965, Jim and Gloria moved to Elkhart, their home for the next 37 years. Jim was active in many community activities over the years including Jaycee's and Little League Baseball. He served 6 terms on the Elkhart City Council. Jim and Gloria were instrumental in establishing the Elkhart Cemetery Association. Jim was a member and served as a Deacon in the Elkhart Christian Church. Jim passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Society. He is survived by Gloria his wife of 54 1/2 years; son Matthew, his wife Liz and grandson Bill; son Martin, granddaughter Lindsey Bembli (Husband Maro) and grandson Keanan (wife Sarah); daughter Jayma Sandquist, her husband Russell, grandsons August, Graham, Berkley and Wilson; brother Bob, wife Teri, 2 nieces and a nephew. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gloria's parents Al and Ann Howard and nephew Shawn Elmore. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday February 15 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 200 S Howard Street in Indianola. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Private burial will take place later in the Elkhart Cemetery.
