Funeral Services for James "Jim" E. Still, 88, who passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 in Indianola, will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Belmont Cemetery, Milo. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 3 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends.

Jim was born in Marble Rock, Iowa on October 4, 1936 to William (Earl) Still and Ellen Lorana (Hunicutt) Still.  During his youth his family lived in several places in Iowa and Missouri.  His family settled in Ackworth, Iowa where he graduated from Indianola High School in 1956.

Jim married Virginia (Ginny) Ann Moorman on October 1, 1961 at the First Baptist Church in Indianola, Iowa.  To this union was born two children, Rebecka Ann and Daniel James. Jim and Ginny purchased a farm west of Carlisle Iowa in 1964, where they raised their family.  In 1995, they purchased a farm northwest of Indianola, where he lived until his death.

Jim served in the Iowa National Guard for seven years.  He worked as a heavy equipment operator following high school.  In October of 1961, he took a job with Barton Solvents, Inc in Des Moines Iowa.  After 39 years, Jim retired in 2000.  Jim also farmed and raised purebred limousin cattle most of his life even after retirement.  He was a true farmer and handyman who could fix anything and at one time he built his own big bail trailer doing the welding.  He also did the finish work in the house he built in Carlisle.

Jim enjoyed helping his children show cattle at the Warren County Fair and Iowa State Fair, both 4-H and open shows.  He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities.

Jim enjoyed singing. He sang at several country music jams both in Iowa and Texas and at church. He was also a good dancer, dancing to classic country music.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny; children, Becky (Gearold) McElwee of Indianola, IA, Dan (Wendy) Still of Comfort, TX; grandchildren, Stephanie (Austin) Martindale of Indianola, IA, Trevor Still of Comfort , TX, Kyra Still of Comfort, TX; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Abriella Martindale of Indianola, IA; sister, Pamela Riley of Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law, Don Moorman of Waukee, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Moorman of Indianola, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ellen Still; parents-in-law, Virgil and Dorothy Moorman; siblings, Bill Still and Mary Ann Still; brothers-in-law, Joe Riley and Bill Moorman.

Memorials may be given in his name to Warren County Fair or Fairview Community Church.
