Obituary

Funeral services for James R. Davies, 88, who died Saturday, December 12, 2009, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, at Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola. Burial will follow in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Indianola.

Jim was born in 1921 in Canada before moving with his family to New York state and then to Williamsburg, Iowa. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II in the Signal Corps of the U.S. Army. He met his wife, Evelyn, in Williamsburg. They moved to Indianola after graduating from Iowa State University.

Jim's career was spent at People's Bank in Indianola, starting as farm manager/loan officer and eventually becoming President. Jim maintained a very active lifestyle until his death. He was extremely active in the life of Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Indianola. There he served as elder, choir member, treasurer, and member of various committees and social groups. He served as member and treasurer of the Welsh Society and Indianola Lions Club. He was a member of the Men's Garden Club and spent time playing bridge, volunteering for various organizations, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. He also gave his time serving as conservator to many estates through Davies Fiduciary Services.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn; son David (Bonnie) of Ankeny; son Paul (Nita) Davies of Corvallis, Oregon; son Keith (Julia) Davies of Indianola; grandchildren Eric (Harmony) of Denver, Colorado; Jason of Cedar Rapids; Michael of Cedar Rapids; and Carla (John) of Indianola; great-grandson Carson Crouse of Indianola; brother Idris (Esther) of St. Petersburg, Florida; and sister Bertha (Henry) Larson of Denver, Colorado.
