Obituary

Services and inurnment of cremains for James Wesley Conard, 91, who passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 17 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. His wife, Veneta, will be inurned with Jim. Jim was born January 4, 1923 to Ralph and Mae Hakes Conard. Growing up he attended the Adel Schools followed by serving in the Army Air Corp as a P-38 pilot in WWII. Jim owned and operated Conard Freight Lines in Des Moines and Ames for over 30 years before he and Veneta retired to their beloved home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Jim loved anything with a motor. Up until his last years he could be found on his boat, golf cart, truck, plane or motor home enjoying the ride. Jim's love for his family will be greatly missed by his children; Carol (David) Schipper, Bette (Richard) Bower, JoAnn Conard, James (Becky) Conard, Jr., and Patricia Walker; eleven grandchildren and 21-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veneta; parents, Ralph and Mae Conard; and brother Ralph "Junior" Conard. Jim's family wants to thank all at Indianola Good Samaritan Home Health Care, Skilled Rehabilitation, Hospice of Central Iowa and finally Good Samaritan Long Term Care where he was cared for with love and dignity.
