Obituary

Services for Jacqueline "Jackie" Woodyard, 86, who died Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Bickford Cottage, West Des Moines, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Jackie was born January 31, 1927, in Chariton, IA, daughter of Frank E. and Minnie (Barnes) Sandahl. She had an older sister and brother, Josephine "Jo" (Wood) and Dwight E. Sandahl. Jackie attended school in Indianola, graduating with the class of 1945, after which she worked as a passenger elevator operator in Des Moines and in office work. Jackie married Walter Burl Woodyard on September 29, 1945 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They were together 53 years. Burl was a farmer and Jackie set up household on their farm just off what is today Highway G24 northwest of Indianola. Jackie often said she was a city girl and had a lot to learn and adjust to out in the country. Burl and Jackie had a dairy operation. Survivors include her daughter Dee Ann (Larry) Sidwell of rural Indianola and her nephews Jerry (Sandy) Wood of Bellevue, WA and Dwight (Gwen) Sandahl Jr, of Leavenworth, KS. She was preceded by her husband Burl Woodyard, brother Dwight Sandahl and sister Jo Wood and her husband Perry.
