Obituary

Memorial services for Jack D. Young, 91, who passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at The Village Health Center in Indianola, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 2 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial of cremains, with military rites, will follow in the Belmont Cemetery, rural Milo.

Jack was born November 24, 1916 to Cleo and Olive (Frank) Young at Milo, Iowa. He graduated from Milo High School in 1933, attended Simpson College and Diesel School in Los Angels, CA. He served in the United States Army Air Corp as a second Lieutenant, attended Texas A&M and became a B-24 pilot serving in the South Pacific Theater and was stationed in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in the fall of 1945. After returning home, he went into farming with his father. Jack and Doris Oliver were married in 1950 and raised a wonderful family, two daughters and one son. They lived on the farm for 30 years, moved to Milo where they lived for over 13 years. In 1994, they moved to The Village in Indianola spending the last 3 years at The Village Assisted Living.

He was a long time member of the Milo United Methodist Church, 60 year member of the Milo Legion Post #263 and 50 year member of the Masonic and Order of the Eastern Star. He served on many committees with the church, the legion, Masons, and also the Lacona - Milo Coop.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter, Becky (Martin) Keeney; son, Mark (Jodi) Young; four grandchildren, Brian Keeney, David (Crystal) Keeney, Jackie Keeney and Krissy Young (Chad) Burgwald; three great grandchildren, Bryce and Brianna Keeney and McKenzie Keeney; and son-in-law, Don Kemp. He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Young Kemp; parents, Cleo and Olive Young; and sister, Betty Young McGraw.

Visitation will be held 4 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 1 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Village Good Shepherd Fund, Hospice of Central Iowa, the Indianola Public Library or the Milo Public Library.
